Our Store's History
Extra Hours began as a business between friends,
and we carry on that tradition today.

In 1995, Donna Asbell, and, her best friend, Mikki Applebee were
brainstorming over their daily coffee meet in Essex Jct., Vermont. They
came up with the idea of Extra Hours, "for all the things you don't have time
to do." Initially, the business was created to give people "extra hours"
during their day by providing services such as decorating, sewing, catering,
and dog walking. Basically, if you needed extra hours, all you had to do was
call on the business Extra Hours for assistance.

In 1997, Donna Asbell reluctantly left Essex Jct., Vermont and moved into
the house that had been hers as a child. She converted this home into a
retail and floral shop and decided along the way to keep her business's
name. In October of this year, Extra Hours opened its doors to the public
and, with lots of community support, has kept them open since then.

In 2003, Donna Asbell expanded her business to include an old-fashioned
ice cream parlor, named, "The Scoope Shoppe," and the two stores have run
like butter since then.

In 2007, Extra Hours celebrated its 10th year in business and gave up the
slogan, "for all the things you don't have time to do." For the next ten years,
Extra Hours will be known as, "the best little gift shop in Georgia," which, if
you were wondering, was inspired by Dolly Parton's infamous movie.

2008 will be another grand year for Extra Hours and The Scoope Shoppe,
we are planning on adding a sandwich shop to the menu, and a lawn care
business to shops' field.
